The Complete Electric Guitarist Holiday 2011, France

This is a special opportunity to study the techniques and approaches of some of the Electric Guitar’s greatest players. Explore the styles and concepts of the Guitar Heroes and Legends of yesteryear on a journey towards making you a modern day guitar god! You will learn how to structure blazing guitar solos, rockin’ riffs and solid guitar rhythms.

Richard Perkins, one of the UK’s foremost Guitar educators, from the International Guitar Foundation, will help you increase your scale, chord and phrasing knowledge so you can leave this magical week with a greater confidence, and rhythm chops!

Course Aims

During the week you will focus on developing the following key areas of your guitar playing: Strengthen your vibrato, string bending, rhythm playing, stamina and phrasing. Learn a wide range of rock, blues, jazz, and funk progressions and structures, while expanding your chord and scale knowledge. Build your confidence by playing with other guitarists and learn how to develop lead solo ideas and express yourself during the improvised jam sessions.

Course Structure

The course will consist of four hours tuition per day, broken into three daily sessions. You will also receive a 30-minute one-to-one guitar lesson with Richard. You will master the riffs, licks and rhythm chops of some of the Electric Guitar?s legendary guitar heroes and innovators, including: Eric Clapton (Cream), Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple), Carlos Santana and Eddie Van Halen on a journey towards modern day rock gods like; The Edge (U2), Slash (Guns ‘N’ Roses) and Matt Bellamy (Muse).

Teaching Methods

You will be encouraged to work together in small groups and classes will be arranged to support various areas of development and interest. It is not a formal requirement to be able to read music to attend this course. The supporting course handouts will use a mixture of tablature (with standard notation) and chord/scale diagrams with slash charts. All classes will be taught in a relaxed and supportive environment with practical demonstrations throughout.

The Complete Electric Guitarist Course caters for any guitarist who has a love for the blues whether you?re a beginner with 6 months or more playing experience through to the more accomplished player looking for a challenge.

What do I need to bring?

Participants will need to bring the following equipment:

  1. Guitar (acoustic or electro-acoustic and/or electric)
  2. Amplifier (available for hire)
  3. Plectrums (standard or thumb pick)
  4. Guitar Strap
  5. Spare strings
  6. Music Stand
  7. Note Pad and Pen
  8. Dictaphone, iPod, iPhone etc
  9. Headphones for use with amplification
